Wednesday Words of Wisdom #130
Sometimes I want to smack my head against my desk.
Other times I want to smack other peoples heads off my desk.
Either way, not much would get achieved other than sore heads and a possible jail sentence for yours truly.
I’m not a violent man.
I take my anger out on a punch-bag and a barbell when I need to and that works out pretty well for me.
Why do I get annoyed?
I follow a guy called Thomas Plummer on Facebook (check him out if you haven’t heard of him). He writes the most eye opening insights and titbits of advice and he always leaves me speechless and super motivated when I read one of his posts.
Trouble is, the motivation doesn’t last forever and sometimes I fail to act at all on the advice I’ve just read, even though I know it would be in my best interests to do so.
Sound like anyone you know?
Have you ever received some advice or a tip that made you think, ‘Wow, that really makes sense. I’ma do that from now on’, only to completely forget it and sit in the same position as you started?
I’m guilty of it more than I care to admit but I’m getting better.
I’ve implemented a new rule for reading books.
I’m a devourer of books, business and mindset ones especially.
But now I have a rule. Now I don’t move on to the next book until I have successfully implemented the lessons that I learned from the last.
It works a treat because I love to read so I’m mad to get onto the next book, thus I put in place a plan to implement the lessons I’ve learned and I get to move on.
Try it the next time you get some advice you think will benefit you.
Someone shares some training tips with you? Try them the very next day you train and decide if they are for you.
Someone shares some nutritional info with you? Read up on it and see if its something that may benefit your situation.
Someone gives you some lifestyle advice? Listen keenly and mull it over some. Try it out and give it some time to see if its worth pursuing.
I promise you that if you just go that bit deeper, there is more to be gained and you will save both me and you from a head beating date with my desk.
There’s a saying that goes, ‘Instead of going an inch deep and a mile wide, go a mile deep and an inch wide.’
Deeper practice, deeper experience, deeper rewards.
Go deep.
